KEVIN BOWEN Published: Thursday, January 25, 2007 6:10 PM CST Larry Dale Floyd was sentenced to a possible life sentence at a hearing in a Colorado court Tuesday.
The former Denton County Constable for Precinct 2 received a sentence of six years to life. He pleaded guilty in November 2006 to three felony counts of enticement of a child after his July 2005 arrest.Floyd was given credit for time served, and he is eligible for parole, according to the district attorney's office. However, in Colorado, only two sex offenders have been released from prison on parole since 1998. Other counts were dropped in the case in exchange for the deal, which was reached in the days leading up to his scheduled trial. After months of e-mail exchanges with a woman whom he believed to be mother of an 8-year-old minor, Floyd journeyed to Canon City, Colo. for an arranged sexual encounter with the minor. The minor did not exist, and the woman with whom he was communicating turned out to be an undercover police officer. The sentences run concurrently, according to the district attorney's office. When a spot opens, he will be transferred to the Colorado Department of Corrections for assignment to an as-yet-unspecified prison.
