Andover lawyer disbarred for neglecting clients Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - by Jim Hammerand Date: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Jim Hammerand, Staff Writer Email: firstname.lastname@example.org An Andover attorney has been disbarred on charges of forgery, misappropriating client funds, neglecting clients and dodging a $523 judgment for an unpaid court reporting bill. The Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility said the attorney, Jay Gerald Swokowski, also tried to evade the disciplinary action by refusing mail and ignoring court papers left at an Andover address where he was staying. Despite this, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that he ignored clients and, in one case, cashed a $1,000 settlement check for a man injured in a car accident. As a result, the court decided that Swokowski's "conduct was not only harmful to his clients, but to the legal profession as well" and revoked his license to practice law in the state Swokowski could not be reached for comment. Listed phone numbers for his practice and home were disconnected, and an email sent to his law firm account could not be delivered.
